Untangling Your Relationship With Money:

A Practical Guide to Move Beyond Money Anxiety, Fear and Shame

Money-relationship-book-Mariska-Reinerink

If you’ve ever lain awake at night with money on your mind, you already know it was never just about the numbers.

Money is about how it makes us feel — the stress, the worry, the guilt, the quiet shame we don’t say out loud. In Untangling Your Relationship With Money, I bring together everything I’ve learned across 30+ years as a financial advisor and money coach — and what I learned the hard way in my own money story — to show you the emotional side that most money advice completely ignores.

Because the way we handle money starts long before we ever open a spreadsheet, this book helps you:

  • See where your money beliefs came from — and which ones you’re ready to let go of
  • Meet your money shame with self-compassion instead of criticism
  • Understand what’s happening in your brain and body when money stress takes over, so you can stop blaming yourself
  • Spend in a way that actually feels aligned — no rigid budgets, no guilt
  • Feel safe enough to receive, so money can finally land and stay

Whether you feel financially settled or you’re living pay cheque to pay cheque, this book is for you. Your relationship with money isn’t about how much you have — it’s about how you feel, and that’s something you can gently shift, one step at a time.

If you’re ready to move from stress and “not enough” toward a calmer, kinder relationship with money, this is your invitation. No hustle, no perfection required — just you, doing the best you can, and a clearer path forward.

About the Author

Mariska Reinerink is a Money Wellness and Business Coach with over 30 years of experience as a holistic financial advisor — and someone who has lived the messy, emotional side of money herself.

Her path from physiotherapist to financial services came from watching how money stress shows up in the body and slows down healing. That insight shaped her whole approach: money isn’t just numbers, it’s the brain, the nervous system, and the beliefs we carry.

But the real turning point was personal. Raising her son as a single mom, she lived through her own money anxiety, shame and “not enough” beliefs — and slowly found her way through them. That’s what made it click. She saw that when you focus only on the numbers and build a financial plan in a vacuum, ignoring the emotions and beliefs underneath, you don’t actually get anywhere — and you don’t really help the kind of people she most wanted to help. That’s why she works the way she does now: not with rigid budgets and spreadsheets, but with compassion, clarity, and a way of handling the practical side of money that works with the body, not against it.
